Stephen P. Nystrom, DO completed his Orthopedic Sports Medicine Fellowship at Tria Orthopedic Center in Bloomington, Minnesota. While taking his Sports Medicine Fellowship, he was involved in Sports Physician coverage of the Minnesota Vikings, Minnesota Timberwolves, and Minnesota Twins. In fact, he also covered the NFL Combine in Indianapolis in 2014.
Dr. Nystrom completed an Orthopedic Surgery Internship and Residency at Michigan State University-Genesys Regional Medical Center in Grand Blanc, Michigan. While serving in his Orthopedic Surgical Residency he served as Chief Orthopedic Resident in 2013.
Dr. Nystrom’s Orthopedic Surgery Internship included a rotation in Pediatric Orthopedic Surgery, Hand Surgery, Orthopedic Trauma Surgery and an elective in Adult Reconstruction at Covenant Healthcare in Saginaw, Michigan.
Dr. Nystrom received his Medical Degree from Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences.
He has special orthopedic interest in Sports Medicine (hip, knee, and shoulder arthroscopy), multi-ligament knee reconstruction and cartilage transplant and preservation procedures. He performs the Anterior, muscle sparing total hip replacement through a "Bikini Incision" technique. His adult reconstruction interests include anatomic and reverse total shoulder arthroplasty and primary and revision hip and knee arthroplasty. He is the author of many lectures and publications.
Dr. Nystrom and his wife, Susan, have one son. Dr. Nystrom enjoys lacrosse, volleyball, soccer, softball, flag football, and Ultimate Frisbee.
