Dr. Alvarez has interest and experience in the management of chronic medical problems, including diabetes, hypertension, COPD, congestive heart failure, depression and anxiety, asthma and other chronic medical problems.
Dr. Alvarez has completed a transitional internship at Hospital Metropolitano in Puerto Rico with rotations in surgery, internal medicine, intensive care, obstetrics, gynecology, radiology, psychiatric and pediatric. He was awarded a Certificate of Excellence in Patient Care in 2013 and 2014. In 2016 Dr. Alvarez was recognized as a CarePlus 5 Star Physician.
Dr. Alvarez studied medicine at Universidad de Havana School of Medicine in Havana, Cuba and also at Universidad Federada/School of Medicine San Judas in Costa Rica, where he received his medical degree. Upon completion of his studies, he sat for his US Medical License examination, which he passed. He is now ECFMG Certified (Education Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates).
Dr. Alvarez is an avid aficionado of the visual arts. He studied sculpture in Havana. While he loves all the arts, he especially loves to paint. He has a mini art gallery in his home which is filled with works of art and he has been invited to participate in several expositions. Dr. Alvarez is bilingual, fluent in both English and Spanish.
